The Orphan Girl is August's featured head frame. The mine operated from the late 1880s to 1956 and the main shaft was 2,671 feet deep. The Orphan Girl (at the World Museum of Mining) is the only place in Butte, Montana, where you can take an underground tour. You can see for yourselves what the mines were like.
